We have now arrived at Session 13 of our series on Church Goals. In our last session, we explored the importance of generosity as an expression of love. Today, we’ll turn our focus to the theme of service. Service is a vital aspect of Christian life, reflecting Christ’s example of humility and love. When we serve one another, we not only meet practical needs but also build up the body of Christ and demonstrate God’s love to the world.
Session Objective: The goal of this session is to encourage a culture of service within the church, where every member actively seeks opportunities to serve others in love. We will explore the biblical foundation of service, discuss the importance of humility, and consider practical ways to foster a servant-hearted church community.
Scripture Reading: Mark 10:43-45 (BSB) “But it shall not be this way among you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be the slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
Key Themes:
- The Biblical Foundation of Service:
- Jesus as the Ultimate Example of Service: Discuss how Jesus exemplified the heart of a servant, humbling Himself to serve others, even to the point of death on a cross. Reflect on how His life calls us to serve others in love.
- The Call to Serve One Another: Explore the New Testament’s emphasis on mutual service within the body of Christ, highlighting passages like Galatians 5:13, which encourages believers to “serve one another in love.”

- Self-Centeredness: Address the challenge of self-centeredness, which can hinder our willingness to serve, and discuss how cultivating a heart of compassion and empathy can help us overcome this obstacle.
