What is the Berean Reader’s Series (BRS)? The Berean Reader’s Series (BRS) is a Scripture commentary and devotional format designed to foster deep reflection on the Word of God through Christ-centered exposition and thoughtful, undistracted reading. It takes its name and spirit from the noble-minded Bereans in Acts 17:11, who “received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures daily to see if what Paul said was true.”

Before we begin this fresh new series let’s have a word from our editor about our new series: First of all, What is the Berean Reader’s Series (BRS)?

Our study in Ephesians is part of “The Berean Reader’s Series (BRS)”, a Scripture commentary and devotional format designed to foster deep reflection on the Word of God through Christ-centered exposition and thoughtful, undistracted reading. It takes its name and spirit from the noble-minded Bereans in Acts 17:11, who “received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures daily to see if what Paul said was true.”

At its core, the BRS is:

1. A Reader’s Companion to the Biblical Text

Rather than dissecting Scripture into technical minutiae or academic categories, the BRS offers section-by-section meditative commentary that follows the natural flow of the biblical narrative. Each unit is introduced with a brief title summarizing the theme, followed by the Scripture text (typically in full or excerpted), and then a theologically rich, Christ-exalting commentary written in plain, thoughtful language.

2. Structured for Devotion, Not Distraction

One distinctive feature of the BRS is the removal of traditional chapter and verse markers in the main commentary. This approach allows readers to engage with the text as a flowing narrative or argument—as it was originally written—rather than in fragmented or overly referenced parts. Titles and transitions guide the reader through the structure, helping maintain orientation while keeping the focus on the message itself.

3. Christ-Centered in Focus and Interpretation

The BRS is not a general Bible commentary. It is built around the conviction that all of Scripture finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ (Luke 24:27; John 5:39). As such, each section of commentary seeks to highlight how Christ is revealed—either in promise, type, fulfillment, or direct teaching. The result is a Scripture-saturated, Christ-exalting journey through the inspired Word.

4. Designed for Churches, Families, and Individual Growth

Whether used in personal devotions, small groups, or sermon preparation, the BRS offers material that is accessible to ordinary readers while remaining faithful to sound doctrine and careful interpretation. Its tone is pastoral, worshipful, and devotional—helping believers not only understand Scripture but love and obey the One it reveals.
