Welcome to latest session of our Church Goals series. For our previous session, we explored the transformative power of grace in our lives. Today, we will focus on the theme of faithfulness—remaining steadfast in our relationship with God through all seasons of life. Faithfulness is a vital characteristic of a believer, reflecting our commitment to God and His purposes.
Session Objective: The objective of this session is to understand the importance of faithfulness in our Christian walk, identify areas where we can grow in faithfulness, and learn practical ways to remain faithful to God, even in challenging circumstances.
Scripture Reading: Lamentations 3:22-23 (BSB) “Because of the LORD’s loving devotion we are not consumed, for His mercies never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness!”
Key Themes:
- Understanding God’s Faithfulness:
- God’s Unchanging Nature: Reflect on Lamentations 3:22-23 and consider how God’s faithfulness is a reflection of His unchanging character. Discuss how understanding God’s faithfulness provides a foundation for our own faithfulness.
- The Reliability of God: Explore Deuteronomy 7:9, which says, “Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations.” Discuss how God’s reliability encourages us to trust Him more fully.
- Faithfulness in Adversity: Consider how God’s faithfulness is demonstrated in times of difficulty, using Psalm 91:4, which speaks of God covering us with His feathers and under His wings, we find refuge.
- Our Call to Faithfulness:
- Faithfulness in the Small Things: Reflect on Luke 16:10, where Jesus says, “Whoever is faithful with very little is also faithful with much.” Discuss the importance of being faithful in the small, everyday tasks.
- Faithfulness in Relationships: Explore how faithfulness plays a role in our relationships with others, including family, friends, and the church community. Reflect on Proverbs 3:3-4, which encourages us to bind faithfulness around our necks and write it on the tablet of our hearts.
- Faithfulness in Ministry: Consider the call to be faithful in our ministry and service to God, reflecting on 1 Corinthians 4:2, which says, “Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.”
- Challenges to Faithfulness:
- Dealing with Distractions: Discuss how the distractions of life can challenge our faithfulness to God. Reflect on Hebrews 12:1-2, which encourages us to “throw off everything that hinders” and “fix our eyes on Jesus.”
- Facing Temptations: Explore the role of temptation in testing our faithfulness, using 1 Corinthians 10:13, which assures us that God is faithful and will not let us be tempted beyond what we can bear.
- Overcoming Discouragement: Reflect on how discouragement can lead us to waver in our faithfulness. Consider Galatians 6:9, which encourages us not to “grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
- Practical Steps to Cultivate Faithfulness:
- Daily Commitment: Discuss the importance of daily commitment to God through prayer, Bible reading, and obedience. Reflect on Joshua 1:8, which calls us to meditate on God’s Word day and night.
- Accountability and Community: Explore how being part of a community of believers helps us remain faithful. Reflect on Hebrews 10:24-25, which encourages us to “spur one another on toward love and good deeds.”
- Relying on God’s Strength: Consider the importance of relying on God’s strength rather than our own to remain faithful. Reflect on Philippians 4:13, which says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
- Faithfulness and Reward:
- The Reward of Faithfulness: Reflect on Matthew 25:21, where Jesus says, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.” Discuss how faithfulness leads to eternal rewards.
- The Joy of Faithfulness: Consider how living a faithful life brings joy and fulfillment, reflecting on Psalm 37:3-4, which encourages us to “trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.”
- The Legacy of Faithfulness: Explore the concept of leaving a legacy of faithfulness for future generations, using 2 Timothy 4:7-8, where Paul reflects on having “fought the good fight” and “kept the faith.”
